“Me Searching” – Informal Internet English & “Used to” Grammar

“Me searching”  is an excellent example of informal, conversational internet language. Broken Grammar for Stylistic Effect.

«Me searching the whole internet for a game I used to play when I was 8 yrs»

Two rules are intentionally broken here to create the effect of spontaneous speech.

«me» instead of «I am»

By all the rules, it should be: «I am searching…»

But here they say «me searching…». This is grammatically incorrect, but stylistically powerful. This is how people speak in real life, pointing at themselves: “Well, that’s me, searching the internet.” It gives the phrase the feeling of an instant snapshot of an action, an internal monologue.

«yrs» instead of «years»

This is simply an internet abbreviation. Fast, convenient, informal. Like “thx” instead of “thanks.”

Pay attention to this part: «…a game I used to play…»

The construction «used to + verb» is one of the most important for talking about the past. It means:

“did something in the past, out of habit, but no longer now.”

I used to play that game. = I played that game before (but I don’t now).

I used to live there. = I lived there once (I don’t live there now).

This is the exact grammar you will use in moments of nostalgia and long stories about childhood or old habits
