The One Universal Meaning of ACROSS

ACROSS = Movement from one side to the other, crossing a surface or barrier. Think of it like this:

  • OUT = Away from center
  • IN = Into center
  • ABOUT = Many directions
  • ABOVE = Higher position
  • ACROSS = From one side to the opposite side

Imagine a bridge going across a river, or a line drawn across a page. You start on one side, travel over a surface or through a barrier, and reach the other side

Exception: With get across and put across, if the object is short, you can separate:

✅ “I got my point across.”
✅ “I got it across.” (Pronoun in middle)
