When a €500 Note Ruined Our Favorite Spanish Restaurant
We were vacationing in Spain and fell in love with a charming local restaurant. The food was delicious, the staff was warm, and every time we paid the bill, they brought us complimentary treats—fresh fruit and sweets—as a sweet little ritual.
One evening, we decided to pay our tab with a €500 bill. Amazingly, when the server brought back our change, it totaled the exact same €500—just broken down into €50 notes! When we pointed out the mistake, the staff looked surprised, had a brief argument among themselves, and finally corrected the bill. However, from that night on, the free treats completely stopped. Everyone else kept getting them, but we were officially cut off.
