Spiked Drinks and Stolen Cash: My Bangkok Scam Story

I flew to Thailand for a long-awaited vacation. Right after landing in Bangkok, I grabbed my main debit card and headed out to grab some cash. I spent the evening strolling through the streets, grabbing a couple of cold beers along the way.

Eventually, I ended up in a small local bar. A friendly local girl walked up, sat next to me, and suggested ordering another drink—and that was my biggest mistake. The next thing I knew, two hours of my life completely vanished from my memory. I barely managed to stumble back to my hotel room.

When I picked up my phone, my screen was covered in bank notification alerts for huge ATM withdrawals. I frantically checked my pockets—my card was gone, my cash was stolen, and even my wristwatch was taken right off my arm. Just like that, I was wiped out for over $1,000.
